MIRRORS ON THE NILE

This tripytch was an inspired creation. I attended a wedding reception of friends Brandon Rizzuto and Spindle Webb. At this reception, the Gitane Demone Quartet played. I owned some of Gitane’s music, but I had never seen her perform live before. I was entranced, and in awe at the power of her performance, in addition to loving the music I was hearing.

When painting, I often have music playing to give myself an “atmosphere” - if you will - to create with. It provides movement, mood and feel, and I often match it to what I am feeling at the time I am creating a piece (or, more accurate, pieces, as I tend to work on several at once). I was listening to the Gitane Demone Quartet album “Past the Sun” - and found myself listening to “Circle Ov Air” on repeat.

That song had bled into the paint I was putting on the canvas, and left me with a work I am quite happy with. Abstraction can often tell stories that others can sometimes see.

“The skies wept: There is no reason for this! Far above the clouds we had flown - In the time of no knowing in the circle of air.”

(Lyrics: Gitane Demone)
