The Oracle of Delphi was also the name of the High Priestess of Apollo, and the most authoritative of the Oracles. A main story tells of how she delivered oracles in a frenzied state, induced by vapors that rose from a chasm in the rock near her…priests would then interpret her enigmatic prophecies turned them into dactylic hexameters preserved in Greek literature.
